Favorite Friday Vendor Spotlight: Tim Hopkins Catering

For our last post of 2011, we took some time out with Tim Hopkins Catering to talk food, food and more food!

TPD: Where and how did Tim Hopkins Catering get started?

THC: We have been in the business for eight years. Tim was GM and Executive Chef at Singing Beach Club in Manchester, Massachusetts for fifteen years. It was from his experience there that he built up his catering clients who followed him when he started his own business.

TPD: What are some of your more popular dishes?

TH: The most popular dish is Tim's Famous Crab Cakes. They are made with tons of local crabmeat and are tender and delicious. We also do wonderful salads and side dishes with seasonal ingredients from local farms. Our petite pastries are also really popular, such as as crème brûlée , strawberry pavlovas, and pot au chocolate.

TPD: What makes Tim Hopkins Catering so great?

TH: We are chef owned and operated so we really care about what people like to eat and any dietary restrictions they may have. We can then create custom menus just for them. We really pride ourselves on our teamwork and attention to detail, as well, which can be seen in the exceptional service and the care all of our employees give for an event.

TPD: What meals are the most challenging to create?

TH: I can't think of any challenging "meal". We can create almost anything. However, it is helpful for a couple with very different tastes to discuss in general what they envision their menu to be, before they meet with us.

TPD: Why do you love what you do?

TH: We love making people happy with our delicious food. We often have our couples and their families tell us that people are still "raving" about the food at their reception. That is what we always aspire to!

Gingerbread Man Cocktail

Ingredients

1 part Irish Cream

1 part Goldschlager

1 part butterscotch schnapps

1 part vodka

Mix all ingredients together and then strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a gingerbread cookie.

This Friday The Perfect Details features Rabbi David Kudan of The Bryant Street Shul in Malden, Massachusetts. We asked him a few questions about Jewish wedding ceremonies as well as interfaith ceremonies. Check out what he had to say.

TPD: When and why did you become a rabbi?

RABBI KUDAN: I wasordained a rabbi at Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion in1987. The course of study normally includes a year in Jerusalem, and fouryears in the U.S. I spent a year in Paris studying biblical languages atthe Catholic Institute and working at a Paris synagogue. I became a rabbibecause I am passionate about Jewish culture and about bringing people closerto Judaism. I also love help people find ways to bring out the meaning ofthe events in their lives by exploring the sacred dimension of theirexperiences and creating ceremonies that reflect their values and personalcommitments.

TPD: Have you conducted any ceremonies of couples that are ofmixed religions?

RABBI KUDAN: I haveconducted many interfaith, ceremonies, often with clergy of other faiths,including Christian - Catholic, Orthodox, Maronite, and Protestant of manydenominations, Hindu, and Buddhist. I also have participated and helpeddesign many multi-cultural and multi-lingual ceremonies, in the U.S. and abroadincluding customs from Japanese, Chinese, Hawaiian, French, Danish,Puerto-Rican, Columbian, Mexican, French, Irish, German, Sri-Lankan, Indian,and other cultures.

TPD: Doyou find most wedding ceremonies you perform are for members of your owncongregation or non-members?

RABBI KUDAN: Mostlyfor non-members.

TPD: Whatare your personal favorite part(s) about the weddingceremony?

RABBI KUDAN: I findit most meaningful when the couple are completely present -- and focused on oneanother at the ceremony. I enjoy the special personal touches thatcouples include -- for example when they write personal statements thatintroduce their vows, or choose for the seven blessings texts that they havefound or have asked friends or family to compose for them.

TPD: Why do you love what you do?

RABBI KUDAN: I lovewhat I do because I know that I can add a special dimension to weddings bycreating a flow that is seemless, and setting a tone that balances the sacredsolemnity of the moment with a sense of joy, with warmth, and with a spontaineitythat allows for an embrace of the unexpected.

TPD: Where did Kahootz get its name, and how did it get started?

CHRIS: I was walking down the hall talking rather unfavorably about someone and used the word kahootz to describe what they were up to. I stopped and thought about if for a minute and thought "hey that would be a great name for a band " a year later I formed Kahootz.

TPD: What makes Kahootz an ALL STAR band?

CHRIS: Two questions in one. Most bands will say they have the best talent - and some of them do but for a band to be a true all star group they also have to have the discipline to play the music as good as it can be done. This is what divides the men from the boys. Kahootz does have the very best talent, but we play the music so that when people hear us they go "Wow!"

TPD: When a potential client is deciding between a band and a DJ, what advice do you give them?

CHRIS: Decide what kind of party you want to have. In my opinion DJ's and bands create totally different kinds of parties. Don't get me wrong, a DJ is the correct choice for a certain client. To me that's a client who's idea of a perfect party is "my guests will dance if they want to, they'll also be at the bar if they want to or hanging out with old friends if they want to. The client who wants a party where everyone is on the dance floor shaking their brains out and having gut busting fun wants a band. A DJ cannot create the level of energy a GREAT live band can. Also many people feel live music gives their affair elegance and sophistication.

TPD: How many events do you do annually?

CHRIS: 65-70

TPD: Why do you love what you do?

CHRIS: When we come to work everyone is happy to see us - when we're finished they're even happier! Pretty cool!

Ingredients for Manischewitz Sangria

3 parts Manischewitz (any varietal will do, but Concord grape is the classic)

About half a shot of brandy per serving

2 parts Dole pineapple-orange juice

1 part lime juice

1 part lemon juice

1 part seltzer water

Cut up apple, grapes, limes, lemons, oranges and put them in punch bowl. Pour wine and juices on top. Add seltzer shortly before serving.

TPD: When and how did you get involved in videography?

MIKE: In 1984 I made a fun video for a Christmas party that me and my college roommate were throwing. It came out really great~ that’s what all my friends were telling me! I had really enjoyed making that video. That experience is what FIRST gave me the “bug” for wanting to shoot and edit. Soon after college my friend got married. I was in the wedding and couldn’t wait to see the video of a professional. While watching, I couldn’t believe how “unexciting” and boring it was. My mind was racing; thinking the whole time what I would have done different to make it interesting and exciting to watch and relive. A few months later I found out that another friend of mine was getting married so I jumped at the opportunity to see if I could video tape their wedding.

~The rest is history.

From that moment on, I knew that I was meant to do this!!!!! The bride and groom loved the video so much they had everyone wanting to watch it. People were continuously telling me “ you are gifted at this!” I absolutely loved it. I loved shooting and getting creative with the camera. In the 80’s editing was much more difficult than present day. Back then videos were hardly edited at all, which is part of the reason why people to present day sometimes struggle with the idea of wanting video. They remember “how boring” their parents video was. To long to want to sit through to get to the “good parts”. This is “key”… the “good parts”. I found ways even back in the 80’s to gather the most special parts of the wedding then put it together with music and special effects that simply stunned everyone who watched my videos. They absolutely loved it and WANTED to watch their video over and over again. To present day it is still that passion and love for what I do in providing a video that creates a “THRILL” to watch and the desire to want to share this piece of history with generations after.

TPD: What makes BlackTie Videography really special?

MIKE: Black Tie Video carries over 27 years of true talent and passion for what we do. TPD: Is there one specific video special that every client always asks for? If so what.

MIKE: YES! The Instant Replay Presentation~ our signature feature at Black Tie Video! This is a very unique and creative highlight of the bridal prep and ceremony moments. This is a 5-8 minute presentation that is played back on our big screen just prior to the bride and grooms introduction into to the main ballroom. It is a fantastic way to share some of the most special moments before and during the ceremony with your guests- a brief sentimental reminder of why they are there and an emotional but exciting way to introduce you into your celebration!

TPD: Why do you think video is such a key element to a wedding?

MIKE: Remember this very important piece of wisdom… Video is not "another luxury you are adding to your wedding" Video is CAPTURING “live in motion” the words, the essence and emotion of becoming husband and wife…giving you the ability to relive the moments your dreamed of …that walk down the aisle, the expression on his face seeing you in your beautiful wedding dress walking toward him, the day you imagined in your head and replayed over and over in your mind…Everything you spent so much love and energy into creating for this once in a life time event! Black Tie Video captures your unique and very special day for you and yours to relive, enjoy and share this very special day with generations to come.

TPD: Why do you love what you do?

MIKE: For reasons just like this quote “Mike, thank you for capturing every amazing moment of our wedding! We greatly appreciate everything that you have done for us. We have watched our video and instant replay a million times since we got back from our honeymoon. Each time we watch the video/instant replay it brings us back to the happiest day of our life. Everyone is still talking about the instant replay; it was a real tear jerker. You were such a big part of our special day and we are so honored that we had you as our videographer. Favorite Friday: Christopher Dumas International Wedding Journalist

The Perfect Details loves working with Christopher Dumas of Christopher Dumas International Wedding Photojournalist. And we want you to know why!

TPD: When and how did you get involved in photography?

CHRISTOPHER: My love of photography dates back to early childhood and was born of watching my father photograph our family, nature, and wildlife. I specifically remember being fascinated by the cameras, lenses, and filters and having the desire to discover what all the different pieces of equipment did.

TPD: What makes a great photo?

CHRISTOPHER: It is somewhat trite to say that a good photo "moves" me, but there is hardly a more accurate way of describing the feeling of viewing an image that evokes emotion. I have a rule that I call the "3 second rule". I view an image for 3 seconds, and in that short window of time if it says something to me, it's a keeper.

TPD: What is the most challenging part of your work?

CHRISTOPHER: The most challenging part of being an event photographer is the intrinsic unpredictably that each assignment possesses. Weather, lighting, time constraints, and human dynamics are just some of the forces that are continually at work in the course of an event. Being able to rise above all obstacles and come away with the shot is the mark of a true professional.

TPD: What makes Christopher Dumas photography stand out?

CHRISTOPHER: In one sentence I'd say that the main thing that separates me from many of the newer so-called "photographers" is that my images stand on their own two feet directly out of the camera, with no retouching. I started my business shooting with an all-manual medium format system that had no "auto" settings. This was at a time when you had to actually have a rudimentary understanding of lighting, focus, flash output, etc. There is no shortage of "Best Buy" photographers in the market that buy an expensive camera thinking that it makes them a pro and that if something goes wrong, they can "fix it" in Photoshop. Nothing could be further from the truth. Photoshop should be used as a tool, not a crutch. Unfortunately by the time the client realizes the reason why their photographer is at a lower price point, it's too late.

TPD: Why do you love what you do?

CHRISTOPHER: I love being a photographer because it's expressive on a personal level. As humans we all see life in our own way and often have diverging views of our experiences. It's often said that two photographers standing side-by-side with capture different images of the same subject, but both may not necessarily be alluring. There's an inherent personal aspect to capturing images for a client knowing that you have documented that moment in time in your own way, and that it's appreciated.

“Somewhere over the Rainbow”: Meghan & Chris tie the knot!

This November has been unusually warm and back at the beginning of November we were honored to be a part of Meghan and Chris’ beautiful wedding in Newport, Rhode Island!

Now, this is a pretty cool couple with amazing friends and family! Chris works for the LA Dodgers and Meghan plans Super Bowl Parties for a living! So when we were asked to help bring their vision to life in the form of invites and all things paper, we were thrilled. And then to be there on the day of the wedding, well, that was, as they say, a grand slam in our books!

Meghan and Chris had a beautiful palette of pinks, silver and white. We designed invitations with pink Swarovski crystals and then also had coordinating ceremony programs, menu cards and fun signage for their signature drink (The Fall Classic – a mulled wine sangria) and flip flops for the ladies to dance the night away. They also had these great late night snacks and trays of mini hot dogs, nachos and of course Cracker Jack. Who could ask for anything more?

One of the many show stoppers of the event were the “place cards” which were regulation baseballs that had the guests’ names written in calligraphy on them and then the baseballs were placed in Lucite cubes with a sticker of their table “number” which was a baseball team. Yes, the Red Sox and the Yankees were seated next to each other and for at least a night, they were amicable and pleasant to each other!

Congrats Meghan and Chris!! We were thrilled to be a part of your day and wish you a lifetime of happiness and home runs!

TPD: How did you get involved in the floral/design business and how many years have you been at it ?

DANA: Before Dana Markos Events was formed, I had a career in Banking. I had always had a great interest in nature and flowers, so the transition from one industry to the other seemed right. I opened A Secret Garden, a floral shop in Ipswich MA named by my children, in 1994, and eventually began receiving so many orders for Weddings, that the event's industry took over my business and I decided to close the shop and begin designing from a private studio instead. Being in the business for more than fifteen years I have had the opportunity to work on some amazing events, and will continue to do so!

TPD: What makes Dana Markos Events unique?

DANA: What makes Dana Markos Events unique is our great attention to detail. We work hard to create innovative and imaginative concepts that help us stand out from other businesses. A great example of our detail work is in our signature bracelet that we apply to every bride's bouquet. We have the bracelet specially designed based on the color scheme and style of the Bride's wedding, and attach it to the handle of the bouquet. It's the little things that always make our clients say "Wow!".

TPD: What flowers are in season right now and what is the "go-to" flower that most clients choose?

DANA: The flowers that we have been using thus far this season have been hydrangea, calla lillies, roses, orchids, and many more, but the key to the season is the autumnal color pattern. The change from Summer to Fall is very visually stimulating with the bright pinks and whites of the Summer, to the oranges and reds of the Fall. Hydrangea is a popular flower that many clients have in their arrangements because it allows for the arrangements to look very full and lush. Adding flowers like ranunculus, roses, cymbidium orchids, etc. make the arrangements more personal and detailed and creates a very beautiful overall appearance. I don't believe in selling "packages" or anything remotely "cookie cutter" because I want my clients to be able to see themselves and their personal style in the designs that I come up with.

TPD: What is the most challenging part of what you do?

DANA: I think the most challenging part about designing for events is creating new ideas and concepts and being able to execute them perfectly. With different styles, colors, and themes that our clients come to us with, it is our responsibility to put together an amazing event that will have everyone amazed. When someone walks into a room that we have designed, we want them to feel like it has been transformed. If we finished designing and I felt like everything had been done before, I would be disappointed.

TPD: What is the most rewarding part of what you do?

DANA: The most rewarding part about what we do is seeing my initial concept come to life. From the first meeting with our client, to the day of the event, so much work is done, from drawing up plans, to ordering flowers, to the delivery, and to be able to see it come together is my favorite part of my job. Although meeting some really amazing clients and getting to work with some awesome vendors doesn't hurt either!

TPD: How did you get started in the Beauty business and when did you get started?

Joanne: I spent many years in a corporate environment and came to realize that was a good job but not a passion. I wanted to have a stronger connection with people, use the creative side of my brain as well as all the great tools learned in an office environment. Doing a makeup application, lesson or skin care treatment is a very intimate experience. My clients share very personal information. They share feelings, desires, and their insecurities. And I connect very personally with them.Touching a person’s face creates transference of energy for me. I didn’t realize that the other person felt it as well until I started getting many notes thanking me for “how they felt” as well as for how they looked after a visit or during their bridal makeup.

TPD: What makes Joya Beauty unique?

Joanne: I believe that my approach to custom blending a perfect color palette for lip colors and my expertise in airbrush makeup sets me apart. Also I "specialize" in attending to bridal parties attending to more than 50 each year. My definition of bridal makeup is a sophisticated, classic, timeless look that showcases the individual, to make her comfortable in her makeup so she feels pretty and smiles a lot for the camera. She wants to look beautiful to her groom and her guests who will see her close up as well as for the camera or video. In this age of High-def. photography and digital cameras, what you see is what you see. And I don’t want people to “see” makeup. I want them to see her eye color, her smile, and to think she looks fresh and rested and relaxed. I want them to see her beauty. I have to take into consideration the time of day – the light makes a huge difference as well. And typically, the event usually transitions from a daylight ceremony to an evening light even candle light reception. I often make them two different lip colors and give them some tips to amp up their makeup before they are announced into the reception. It’s all about having her feel confident. Personal space on a very important date – I am very physically close to them and have to be aware of the effect that has on different people. We need to establish rapport and trust.

TPD: What is a key element of make-up every bride MUST HAVE?

Joanne: I look for that special "spark" in each bride's face that makes her not only look but feel beautiful. I want her to look at her photos for years to come and remember how beautiful she looked. Some…it is their eyes color, so enhancing that with complimentary shadows is enough. But if I had to pick one product…I would say eye liner. It defines the eye and brings focus to her face even in group photos.

TPD: What is most challenging about what you do?

Joanne: The law of Physics limits me to be in one place at a time. I want to be at every bride's wedding that asks me to attend to her beauty preparations. I just love them all. That and convincing the bridesmaids that they will love having their makeup done as well. Unfortunately ladies have had an unpleasant experience with makeup applications at least once being part of a wedding party. Even though it is not "their day" they still want to look pretty for the occasion. I do my best to make that happen for them as well.

TPD: Why do you love what you do?

Joanne: What is not to love! I get to meet new people, make friends and in so many cases become part of their lives. Many of my Joya brides still come back for skin care treatments, makeup applications, products and I can re-create their bridal lipstick even for years to come. I love it when they bring their new babies over too.

TPD: How did you get involved in photography?

NIKKI: I started in the wedding industry as a planner for 10 years. Then on the off season, I worked as an assistant for an amazing photographer who needed some last minute help. On that job, he let me play around with a spare camera. I fell in love immediately. And he liked having an assistant who knew so much about weddings. I spent the next year going on jobs with him and learning to shoot in his studio. It just snowballed from there.

TPD: What makes a great photo?

NIKKI: The perfect photo gives a glimpse into a person's soul. The perfect photo is one that you look at and know exactly what the people in the photo are thinking and feeling. The best compliment is when someone looks at one of my photos and feels like they're actually there in the moment. I had one client tell me they could almost smell what was happening in a photo!

TPD: What is the most challenging part of your work?

NIKKI: It's pretty physical. We spend long hours on our feet carrying heavy equipment. It requires that you stay in pretty good shape. I don't love that part, but it is great motivation to get to the gym!

TPD: What are your feelings on black & white photos vs color photos?

NIKKI: The color (or lack of color) in a photo can completely set the mood. Vibrant colors can add great energy to a photo. But the simplicity of black and white can be so dramatic. It goes further than that though. Beyond color, you can look at tone, contrast, shadow and highlight. They all contribute to the impact of a photo.

TPD: Why do you love what you do?

NIKKI: How much time do you have? Photographing the special moments in a person's life is such an honor. I'm trusted to blend in and understand what is happening immediately and then document a once in a lifetime moment. In a small way, I'm making a real mark on people's lives. All this, and I get to be creative and be my own boss. I couldn't imagine doing anything else

Ingredients

Ice cubes
1 1/2 fluid ounces lemon vodka
1 fluid ounce Cointreau
1 fluid ounce cranberry juice
2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lime juice
Long thin piece orange zest

Directions

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the vodka, Cointreau, and cranberry and lime juices. Cover and shake vigorously to combine and chill. Strain the cosmopolitan into a chilled martini glass. Twist the orange zest over the drink and serve.

Note: The drink can also be stirred in a pitcher.

The Perfect Details caught up with Mike Picard of Mike Picard Videography to learn more about the man behind the video camera, what makes him tick, and what clients really want.

TPD: When and how did you get involved in videography?

MIKE: I started shooting video when I was about 13 years old as I was the designated video person in my family of 8 people. My dad had bought one of the first camcorders that was out and basically told me that I was going to be the person to film all of the family party’s and things seeming as though I liked anything to do with technology. I did these kinds of videos all through my teen years. Once I had gotten out of high school I had a couple of different retail related full time jobs and realized that this wasn’t for me. I still had the passion for something more in the A/V field. I was into home theater and video and really anything that had to do with it. I started asking around if anyone knew of any video companies were looking for help. I come across this one man and he was nice enough to let me tag along on a couple of weddings with him and soon after I was getting paid to do this and helping him out. In the beginning I asked if I could just watch and learn and not even receive pay from him. He said sure and started taking me out on jobs with him. His name was Andy and he was from North Attleboro area and I wish I could find him now some seventeen years later to thank him for giving me the chance. I worked with him for about a year and it was the best year of my life. He taught me the bare bones on setting up shots and framing and basically everything that comes right down to the bare essentials when t come to composition. He was slowly getting out of the weddings end of the filming and going more towards cooperate jobs and that was something that bored me. I then moved onto another company and after about four more years of getting even more experience I then opened my own company and the rest as they say is history.

TPD: What makes Mike Picard really special?

MIKE: Well I’d have to say that I am probably the longest running video company in the state that is also still the busiest thank god. I am really particular and very OCD. Therefor I am real particular on how this company is run. I get back to people within a few hours of an inquiry, phone call, or email. I strive to keep up with the latest in both technology and techniques. We have a great turn around rate which is normally in less than two months. That is huge considering we have almost 85 weddings booked this year. I guess over all it is the persistence in which we continue to keep moving forward as we continue to put more and more years under our belts.

TPD: Is there one specific video special that every client always asks for? If so what.

MIKE: We have been becoming more and more known for “the video recap”, this is a quick 3 to 4 min recap of their special day all edited to the tune of one song in which we choose together both the bride and groom and myself. I very seldom let the couple pick the song and more times than none I pick it for them. I try to find a song that will sit well with them. We put a lot of time into these recaps and they really are a hit with all of our couples. We also do same day edits in which are very much like our recaps but are done on location that same day as the wedding and are shown in High Definition on are new HD projectors and usb players. This again is something that has a lot of thought involved and not just thrown together. When we do these same day edits we have a scripted timeline all set up and ready to go well over a week before the weeding even happens. When the actual wedding comes we know exactly what shots we need for which parts of the song and basically build the full puzzle as the day goes on. All of our same day edits have a minimum of three, sometimes four people on staff that day to make sure everything runs smoothly and no one is stressed. The guests do not know what they are about to see as it starts off with just a small basic picture montage then dissolves to the footage of the very beginning of the day and leads right up till there first dance. This is something you have to experience if you haven’t already.

TPD: Why do you feel having your wedding or event recorded is so important?

MIKE:Now more than ever we are seeing that more and more couples are getting a wedding video. As the years pass brides and grooms are becoming more and more aware of the necessity of getting a good wedding video. If you figure that your spending let’s say 40 to 50 thousand dollars average on your wedding day, only 5% of that can get you a real nice wedding film. It sounds like a corny quote but they say a picture is worth a thousand words, what’s a video worth then? Think about this, one second of video has twenty nine still images you do the math. The biggest regret on a bride and grooms wedding day is not having a professional wedding videographer. There’s no other way to truly re live the day.

TPD: Why do you love what you do?

MIKE: I love doing this because of the feelings we bring to all of our customers. Many of today’s jobs go unnoticed and un appreciated. We continue to receive thank you cards with nice long letters telling us how grateful they are for having us document their wedding day. That is what it’s all about, making our couples happy. This makes us happy!

TPD: How did you start in photography?

RICHELLE: I started with a photography class at my church which happened to be taught by three of the top wedding photographers in California. I saw that wedding photography didn't have to be boring and super posed but could be more artistic and photo journalistic. After that class, I was like a sponge and soaked in any knowledge of photography I could. I shot my first wedding about a year later.

RICHELLE: I am based in Orange County in the sunny state of California!

RICHELLE: Anywhere in Italy! My friend got married in a tiny chapel on a hill in Florence, Italy and it was one of the most gorgeous weddings I've ever been to. Unfortunately I wasn't a photographer then so I didn't shoot the wedding. If I don't get to shoot a wedding there, then that is where I will be getting married. :)

RICHELLE: Enjoy your day! Let your planner deal with the details and enjoy and soak in every moment. Also, be sure to have a photographer you like and trust. Your photographer is with you for a major portion of your wedding day so you want to make sure you click with them. (Pun intended!)

It is not just a day about dressing up and candy... or is it?

It began over 2000 yrs ago with people known as the Celtics. They lived in what is today England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. This was also the beginning of the Celtic new year, a time to give thanks to the sun god for the harvest. Halloween, All saints day, All hallows eve or All souls day is a festival. It was held to honor the so called "lord of death". It was a belief that on the eve of this festival, the lord of death, called together the wicked spirits that within the past 12 months had been condemned to inhabit the bodies of animals.

Sounds pretty intense, so let's just enjoy the costumes and candy. Trick or Treat!

TPD: Where and how did Ormonde Productions get started?

Ormonde: About 20 years ago we were on the entertainment side of special events and were inspired by all the beautiful events that we were exposed to around the country and dedicated to launch our own lighting design company, which launched into what we are today!

TPD: What does Ormonde Productions provide clients with?

Ormonde: We also provide various lighting and decor options to make reception areas look its best. For each wedding and event that we hold at any venue we aim to transform the space to fit each client's personality and vision. In terms of lighting and decor- ballroom/tent lighting, band and dance floor lighting, monogram/projection lighting, pinspot lighting of tabletops centerpieces, various chandelier/lantern lighting, exterior lighting, and variety of lounge furniture are some of the more popular options.

TPD:What is the most popular or a must that clients have at their weddings?

Ormonde: The most popular service we provide is uplighting. Unless you've seen our work, you would never expect lighting to be able to truly transform a plain space into something really special the way that it does. We use wireless LED lights that can achieve any color on the spectrum. A lot of clients take advantage of the color selectable uplighting, which we recommend to change three times throughout the night; a walk in color for a "WOW" effect, a warm candlelight dinner color, and a party color to get guests in the mood to dance.

TPD: What is a specialty item that only Ormonde Productions has/uses?

Ormonde: We have many hanging lampshade and crystal decor options that are unique to our company exclusively. They are becoming very popular as it is a beautiful addition to any event.

3 1/2 oz Smirnoff® Green Apple Twist vodka
1 1/2 oz Hawaiian Punch® Green Berry Rush

They are elegant, fun, delicious, and amazing! The Perfect Details caught up with Mark and Marie Soliday of Confectionery Designs to find out more a out their fabulous cakes!

TPD: When and where did Confectionery Designs get started?

MARIE: Mark has always loved cooking. He used to cook along with his grandmother, who was very passionate about food. Mark is a graduate of CIA, New York and has been a Pastry chef for over 20 years . Confectionery Designs was launched in Newport in 2001.

TPD: What do you love about your business?

MARIE: Everything...We love striving to produce the highest quality cakes with innovative designs. We love when we walk into the room and adding the final piece of the puzzle (the cake!!) We love the variety of clients, our favorite bride is one that doesn't order off the menu, they may bring in a dessert or sweet for us to recreate. Our clients...I can't stress how important they are to us. We develop such wonderful relationships with them. It's important to us as we look through past cakes that they are not a number, that we refer the cakes as "Jennifer's cake" or "Mary's cake."

TPD: What has been the most challenging project/cake you have had to design?

MARIE: This is a tough question!!! We have been very grateful for all our clients and have been blessed with some wonderful experiences. Having a cake outside in the extreme heat always adds a little worry. Having a refrigerated is a "must" in the business especially with humidity. With these hot days, we always deliver the cake as close to the reception start time.. With the cake coming directly from the refrigerated van, we never have any problems.

TPD:What is your favorite cake flavor, and what do most clients choose?

MARIE: Personally, re-creating the German Chocolate Cake. My grandmother used to make me that cake for my birthday. We had a bride who requested it and we did a caramel cream with shredded coconut and folded in crushed pecans dragees. I can't put into words how it tasted! For the vanilla lover, our most popular sellers would be Lemon Chiffon and Fresh Berries and for the "choco-holics" Ferrero Rocher.
